Our Mission

The Dreamnote Foundation pledges to improve access to music and art throughout Mississippi in Underserved communities.

Why Music?

  • Improved reading skills

  • A better vocabulary

  • In a NIH study, 90% of preschool children studied showed increased verbal intelligence after just 20 days of musical training

  • Music strengthens the same part of the brain used for complex math skills

  • Musical training develops the part of the brain associated with sensory and motor function

The many benefits of music include:

Arts and music education can be a way to help close the achievement gap. Music and arts education can be especially beneficial to students from under-resourced communities: The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) foundation found that compared to children with low access to arts education, low-income students with high amounts of art education:

  • Had higher GPA

  • Scored higher in writing and science

  • Were more likely to participate in extracurricular activities

  • Were 5x less likely to drop out of high school

  • Were 3x more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree

  • Regardless of socioeconomic status or school district, students (3rd graders) who participate in high-quality music programs score higher on reading and spelling tests

Unfortunately, it’s disadvantaged students who are least likely to have music learning in their schools. Yet research shows they could benefit the most from music learning.

  • Childhood mental health, including increased self-esteem

  • Increased attentiveness and perseverance

Aside from the academic benefits, musical training can benefit children in other important ways, including:

  • OPTIMISM

We are optimistic by nature, and that through partnership we will successfully accomplish our goals, deliver our mission, and reach our vision.

Our First Goal
